FTD announced that of Jan 8 2009 they would increase the price of their CD's on the FTD label due to global price increases?,the dealer i usually use charged £15.99 + £1.00p+p a price i thought was very high for a single CD presented in a cardboard fold out case with very little information printed on the case, however it was aimed at the Elvis collector and so i have bought every regular release up till the Dec release of I'll Remember You.This morning i decided to treat myself to this CD and went online to my usual supplier to order it,to my shock i saw that every FTD listed had its price lifted from £15.99 to £19.99!!,now i know FTD made the price announcement but surely this is to come into force as of the Blue Hawaii release on the 15 Feb?,all these FTD's are in stock and was bought from the supplier at the previous and cheaper price so why is the supplier adding the price increase onto items bought cheaper.I can understand that as items become sold out and they have to buy new stock from FTD the new price will come into force but to immediately whack on a price hike to everything in stock to me is a big fat con.I realise that there will be some small print somewhere saying that all stockists have to add the price hike but i still smell a rip off going on.
I spend most of the morning checking out FTD stockists in the UK and without naming people found that two suppliers have added the hike on all stock and two are offering them at a cheaper price of £15.99 and £17.59 however both stockists are sold out of the I'll Remember You title at this time.
So now i have to decide whether i will accept paying £19.99 for new FTD's which is highly doubtful as i found £15.99 a bit steep or revert to the dreaded downloads which will be a shame as so far all my FTD's are original, but where do you draw the line on feeling ripped off just because you are an Elvis fan and collector.
I would be interested to hear from UK fans on where they are buying their FTD's from now if in fact they are and also from fans outside the UK as to how the price hike has affected them and if they will continue buying FTD releases?
